All That Remains

Leo is a restaurant reviewer, Gesine is a psychologist, and the two were a model couple for 17 years. Until one day Leo says the words that turn their world upside down: “Something has happened to me.” It’s the old cliché: a fifty-year-old man falls in love with a younger woman. Gesine didn’t suspect a thing, and these words strike a powerful blow. What follows is the erosion of everything that held her life together for almost two decades. Once they move out of their apartment, Gesine heads for Normandy to their vacation home to arrange to put it on the market. She takes with her a box with 17 photos, one for each year she spent with Leo. Using these pictures, the tale of a great love is told in flashbacks. The day they met, the day he proposed to her in Paris, their wedding, her miscarriage, the cycling trips they took… happy and tragic moments, scenes from a perfectly normal marriage that turned out not to be so normal. by Annette Hohberg 3-426-65227-7 352 pages, March 2011
