The truth is hard to recognise in the darkness of the polar nights.
The winters in Longyearbyen on Spitsbergen are long and dark, and the approximately thirty inhabitants and employees of the research station have to be self-reliant for the majority of the time. It is here, in the solitude of polar nights, that microbiologist Martin van der Zaar is trying to process the end of his marriage. However, soon his nightmares and overwhelming feeling of constriction in the small community are the least of Martin’s problems. When he falls in love with mysterious Rebecca Hüttner, he unknowingly wakes the demons of the past that soon demand new blood.
