A romance novel by the SPIEGEL bestselling author, as stringent and beautiful as a mathematical puzzle

Before Jon can finish school, she finishes with him. He is out. And Sunny, whom he longs for like he has never longed for anyone before, doesn't get in touch. Under the scorching sun of the summer of the century, he wanders through the woods just outside Berlin and comes across the hidden buildings of the former GDR youth academy - and Benno, who once found the love of his life here, Alemee from Ethiopia, and was expatriated because of this love. After many years in Africa, he has returned alone to a country that has become unfamiliar to him. Jon and Benno become companions who help each other to realise that their paths in life are not steep. Sunny and Alemee, around whom their thoughts never cease to revolve, blend into the glistening present like mirages on the horizon of a frozen time. But then a battered Japanese jeep, freshly brewed coffee from Sidamo and some extremely fortunate technicalities on the part of the Berlin administration suddenly set everything in motion that seemed stuck.

"The way Karin Kalisa gently yet realistically tells of the great opportunities that exist as treasures in our society, without any kitsch or sweetness, is her great art. A powerful book that gives hope." NDR Kultur - New books
