When we became fit and sporty

Young beautician Lili has been taught by her mother Anne Jensen to fight for her happiness. Lili follows her true love, John, when he moves to California to be with his father who had been stationed in Germany. Moving to the USA is the best thing that could have happened for her to lead an independent life. In the USA she gets to know the ideas of the fitness movement and has an inspiration: fit people are more beautiful! But then John is sent to Vietnam with the army and a few months later, he is declared dead. Lili returns to Germany and is determined that from now on she will fully devote herself to her career.

“As a small girl, I saw how my mother jogged in the woods to get rid of her baby weight — this experience has inspired me to write this story sixty years later.” Kristina Engel

“Repression, women’s rights, an economic miracle. This novel tells contemporary history I devoured it.” OK! about Ein Koffer voller Schönheit
