Rap lives matter: the loudest voice in German rap declares war on racism
A life between rap, racism and rocker clubs
Manuellsen is a shining light in the German rap scene and is its toughest and loudest voice against racism. At the same time, he polarises opinions with his life full of contradictions. He was born in 1979 as the son of a Ghanaian activist in Berlin. After his mother was deported, he grew up in Mülheim, a cultural melting pot. His musical talent quickly became clear and Manuellsen gained a reputation as a highly talented hothead in the rap game, who doesn’t shy away from anything or anyone. His disputes with Bushido and various rocker clubs in Berlin are still some of the scene’s most legendary feuds. But while Bushido has long since been dethroned, Manuellsen remains the true king of German rap; as a label manager, cafe owner, family father and above all as an active fighter against racism. His voice is now more important than ever.
