Straight talking - for a church of the future
The exposure of the monstrous abuse of power has shaken the Roman Catholic church for years. Sexual abuse, clericalism, squandering and lack of empathy towards victims of church abuse leave people speechless. The more dreadful the crimes, the more shocking the documented practice of the high clergy to cover up these crimes. “It is time to disempower this church,” said Maria
Mesrian and Lisa Kötter – two of the most important voices of the Maria 2.0 movement.
Mesrian is a member of the Roman Catholic Church and wants to see the change from the inside out while Kötter has decided to leave the church after 61 years. The pair of them agree, “A complete about-turn is needed. We all have to start turning this church into places for people: into places where the homeless can get warm, into places of trust, and into places of searching and democracy. Places that serve the people and therefore also serve God.”
"Who does the church belong to? Is it the church of the cardinals and the bishops? No, it belongs to us, the people! Disempower the clergy!” Maria Mesrian and Lisa Kötter
