Two Almost Perfect Sisters

The new novel by Michaela Grünig is a warm-hearted humorous story about two disparate sisters and their path to happiness and love: Since childhood, the editor Stefanie Lenz has admired her older sister Lily, who definitely got the better draw of the parental gene pool. Lily is beautiful and married to a fabulous man. Stefanie on the other hand often feels overwhelmed by everyday life. How, for example, do you save yourself from a declaration of love from your new boss without ruining your career? Stefanie appears to have a brilliant idea: she simply says she is a lesbian. Luckily Lily is available as her plus one for the office party. As the publisher’s ‘token lesbian’ things are going well for Stefanie, soon she’s allowed to cover the bestseller author Bernhard Otto. Unfortunately he is surprisingly nice, and then her alibi partner Lily, whose life seems to be in free fall following her husband’s unfaithfulness, drops out.

What if … instead of completing the sensible university course, a girl where to work as a party girl on Ibiza? Had done a runner with an Argentinian polo player instead of choosing the marriage-suitable tax advisor? Or had ‘simply gone’ and bought a one-way ticket to LA? Would the aforementioned woman now be walking down the red carpet to the Oscars as George Clooney’s girlfriend? Or as a neurotic drunk on the highway to hell? These are the sorts of thoughts that I daydream about. And, as I sadly – like most people – only have one life to live, I let the characters in my novels try out these crazy thoughts for me! So as to make things easy, most of them share my characteristics – the good and the bad! I have my best ideas when I head out for a forest walk with my three dogs.
